Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present a three dimensional (3D) study and modelling of a 27.8 kW, 36 000 rpm claw-pole synchronous machine, by means of the 3D finite elements method. The 3D magnetic field computation has been carried out by the coupling of the total and reduced scalar magnetic potential formulations implemented in the FLUX3D software. The simulation results have shown the intrinsically 3D nature of the electromagnetic field in this type of machines. The predetermination of the characteristics of the machine at no-load and at load has been realized with the use of the magnetostatic model, taking the materials nonlinearities into account. Different results of computation of the 3D magnetic field in this machine are presented and its main characteristics are developed.
