Abstract

•Bipolar disorder (BD) is frequently observed in multiple sclerosis (MS).•Largely unexplored is the brain damage related to BD in MS.•We found smaller nucleus accumbens, putamen and pallidus in MS patients with BD.•Deep grey matter alterations may influence the BD occurrence in MS.
