Abstract

The complex, frustrating problem of the failure to eradicate group A streptococci in a patient with streptococcal pharyngitis even after appropriate treatment and apparent clinical recovery is explored. Utilizing knowledge of the interrelationship of the human host, the group A streptococcus, and nonsuppurative sequelae is suggested as a means to alleviate or avoid “streptococcal neurosis” and the problem of treatment failure.
