Abstract
- This paper presents the progress made in the ultrasonic test equipment which now appears to make automatic testing of small-diameter tubing a distinct possibility. It then presents some cross sections, showing the type and size of discontinuities detected with this equipment in Type 347 stainless-steel tubing. Finally, the summary points out the inherent difficulties in judging the severity of the defect by the amplitude indications alone and the importance of the experience factor which is required to interpret the test results.
