Abstract

'CandidatusLiberibacter asiaticus' (CLas) is a non-culturable α-proteobacterium, putatively causing Huanglongbing (HLB), a devastating disease currently threatening citrus production in India and all over the world. Here, we report the whole genome sequence of a CLas strain obtained from the leaf midrib of a HLB-infected Khasi mandarin tree in Assam, India. The draft genome of strain AS-TNSK3 is 1236955 bp with G+C content of 36.5% and harbours both Type 1- and Type 2- like prophages. Annotation of AS-TNSK3 genome identifies 1084 open reading frames (ORFs) and 45 RNA genes. This CLas whole genome sequence is the first report from Northeast India, considered to be the centre of origin of the genus Citrus. Insights from the Indian CLas sequence data would enrich the current CLas genome resources and will facilitate in understanding CLas biology and designing effective HLB disease management strategy.
