Abstract
- The aim of this study was to determine the major components of the free fatty acids pool in the spinal cord tissue of rabbits exposed to: a) experimental impact injury (SCI) and b) the influence of post- injury hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO). Free fatty acids were identified by using gas chromatography. Treatment with hyperbaric oxygenation resulted in a significant decrease of the level of the analysed FFAs caused by neurotrauma. These results are suggest HBO as a possible treatment of spinal cord injury.
