Abstract

The percentage of farms with SCC above 400,000/ml and of farms with a great deal of infected cows were determined in some places of Croatia. The 715 samples were collected in the following areas: Zagorska Sela, surrounding of Kriz, Koprivnica, Daruvar and Zadar in 1995 and 1996. 31,1% of the farms had SCC above 400,000/ml in milk. This shows that one third of the farmes were delivering hygienically unsatisfactory milk. 40% farms had SCC in milk above 300000 cells/ml. That means that a great number of cows had infected udders. including SCC in the payment of raw milk and proper preventive control measures are the only way to improve this situation.
