The Creative Process of the Baroque Architect from New Spain Miguel Custodio Durán (ca. 1680 - ca. 1746)

Algunos estudios que tratan sobre los medios de producción arquitectónica en la historiografía novohispana marcan a los tratados de arquitectura como principal fuente de inspiración y modelos para los albañiles o arquitectos, y en sociedades como la de Nueva España es mayor todavía, pues se abre camino mediante la constante intervención de artistas provenientes principalmente de España. Estos modelos se manifiestan en las obras arquitectónicas, como el caso del arquitecto Miguel Custodio Durán, pero debemos recordar que los procesos creativos, al inicio, van acompañados de esas fuentes documentales que son necesarias, pero después, con la formación en el gremio y la experiencia constructiva del artífice, genera como resultado un proceso creativo, que se distinguió por ser original y complejo. Still, we must remember that in the beginning, creative processes are accompanied by those necessary documentary sources, but later, with the formation in the guild and the formative experience of the architect generated.
