Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the day-to-day operations of Holocaust museums in many ways, as has been the case with other cultural institutions. However, at the same time, the pandemic has also accelerated the willingness of Holocaust memorials to experiment and engage with the use of social media, which has led to intensifying the ongoing generational change of digital Holocaust memory practice. Practical examples of this, among others, can be found in Spring 2020 events, when hashtags such as #RememberingFromHome, #ShoahNames - which were used simultaneously with YomHaShoah in Israel - #DigitalMemorials, #ClosedButOpen, and #Liberation1945, all became quite popular during the commemoration ceremonies of the Holocaust.
