Abstract

Now more than ever there is pressure on students to transition from being school leavers to professionals before they leave higher education. This is a bigger process than simple skill-development and from the point of view of educators, it begins with seeing and respecting prospective students as individual performers with a unique potential. There is no threshold moment at graduation when students transform into adults who are ready for the working world. It happens over the course of years, as students journey to autonomy, ingenuity, and self-reliance.
