Abstract
- Narušavanje ekološke ravnoteže i negativan utjecaj na zdravlje ljudi samo su neke od posljedica djelovanja kemijske industrije. Temeljen na znanstvenim i ekonomskim načelima, 1990. prezentiran je koncept zelene kemije s ciljem smanjenja štetnih učinaka te povećanja održivosti i energetske učinkovitosti proizvodnih procesa. U ovom je radu prikazana primjena biotehnologije u zelenoj kemiji u kontekstu sinteze biopolimera, biogoriva te organske sinteze. Razvitak biokemijskog, genetičkog i metaboličkog inženjerstva, kao i srodnih područja, rezultirao je mnogobrojnim postignućima. Međutim, neki od izazova još su uvijek nepremostivi, stoga su edukacija i ulaganje u biotehnološka područja od neupitne važnosti. Disturbance of ecological balance along with a negative impact on human health is just some of the consequences of the chemical industry. In 1990, based on scientific and economical principles, the concept of green chemistry was presented in order to reduce harmful effects as well as increase the sustainability and energy efficiency of production processes. In this thesis, the use of biotechnology in green chemistry applied to biopolymers, biofuels and organic synthesis is presented. The development of biochemical, genetic and metabolic engineering, as well as related fields, has resulted in numerous achievements. Even so, some of the challenges are still insurmountable, hence education and investment in biotechnology areas are of indisputable importance.
