Usos del PEEK en prótesis dental

Objetivo: Determinar la evidencia científica existente en relación al uso actual del PEEK como nuevo material en Prótesis Dental así como las ventajas e inconvenientes que se le atribuyen en dichos usos. Material y método: Se realiza una revisión bibliográfica, con búsquedas electrónicas en PubMed y Scopus, con el fin de identificar aquellos trabajos en los que se empleara el Peek en algún tipo de Prótesis Dental. Resultados: Con la estrategia de búsqueda empleada encontramos un total de 283 artículos en PubMed y más de 4000 en Scopus. Finalmente seleccionamos 26 artículos para realizar este trabajo que era los que cumplían los criterios considerados. Conclusiones: Aunque actualmente se está empleando el Peek para la fabricación de distintos tipos de prótesis dentales (prótesis parciales removibles, prótesis fijas de hasta 3 piezas, obturadores palatinos, retenciones para sobredenturas, estructuras de prótesis implantosoportadas, provisionales y tornillos de implantes) se carece de un número suficiente de estudios y de un seguimiento en el tiempo que lo abalen y por tanto aun no estamos en disposición de recomendar la sustitución de los materiales tradicionales por estos de nueva aparición. Purpose: Determine the existing scientific evidence regarding the material of the actual use of PEEK for dental use and the advantages and disadvantages that are attributed in prosthesis. Materials and method: A literature review was performed, with electronic searches of PubMed and Scopus , in order to identify those jobs where the Peek is employed in some type of dental prosthesis. Results: The search strategy employed found a total of 283 articles in PubMed and 4000 in Scopus. Finally we selected 26 items for this work those which met with the criteria considered. Conclusions: Although currently being used the Peek for the manufacture of various types of dentures ( removable partial dentures , fixed prostheses up to 3 pieces, shutters palatine , retentions sobredenturas , structures implant prostheses, provisional and screw implants ) is lacking a sufficient number of studies and monitoring over time that abalen and therefore we are not yet ready to recommend the replacement of traditional materials by these new appearance.
