Abstract

Background: This project has become as a result of my work in mental hospital for adults, where my experience is that many adults who have had traumatic experiences in early years of life have got reduced quality of life as grownups. My question has been: “who is able to identify children and young people with mental challenges in early years of life?” Objective: The aim of this study has been to get knowledge about which challenges pedagogical- psychological services (PPT) face, and how they help and which experiences the consultants have about children and young people`s mental health. This has lead to the research question: “How experience and in what way does PPT relate to children and young people`s mental health in primary school?” Method: This study is built up on a qualitative research and a semi-structured interview with five informants. Results: The results shows that PPT`s approach to the pupils is primarily on the educational plan, and the findings show great variation in relief efforts related to child and adolescent mental health. The home conditions are of great importance for the pupil`s mental health. Smaller municipalities have organized in closer cooperation with other support services than larger municipalities that seems to work more separated. Conclusion: PP Advisers experience to be faced with many complex issues related to children and young people`s mental health. This often triggers the need to use institutions ABUP, HABU, BUP and other support services. It is important that the PP consultants dare to ask the hard questions for suspected trauma-related issues so that they can get in early with the right help. Keywords: PPT, psychological health, mastery, different professional collaboration, action and risks.
