Abstract
- [EN]Spectacles and visual effects were common devices in Ancient historiography, as theyhelped in setting an emotional and sensorial connection with the audiences. Curtius’ His-tories , as many other Roman histories, can be read as a series of spectacles that illustrate andexemplify on a certain point, in this case, the moral degradation experienced by Alexanderthe Great during his Asian campaign. In this article, a close reading of Dioxippus’ duel with a Macedonian is offered to illustrate how Curtius used a spectacular configuration toenhance and resignify the emotive and exemplary nature of this episode.
