Parents d'élèves des quartiers populaires de Marseille. Lignes ethniques, ressemblances morales

Abstract
- Taking advantage of the admission of students from Marseille lower class areas to a newly established “excellence” boarding school, the article focuses on the parents who were so indirectly selected. It first puts into question their distinctiveness. Were they chosen because they were remarkable as well as their children. It appears that such is not the case. Their children are not academically exceptional and themselves are not socio-economically nor ethnically peculiar. They can be seen as alike the large number of lower class parents from these areas who are concerned with their children’s school education and hope for them better life courses than their own. The ethnographical-type inquiry helps knowing how ethnic lines impact on family configurations, and it allows to set out roughly the educative style which prevails in these families.<br />Tirant parti du recrutement d’élèves des zones populaires de Marseille dans un « internat d’excellence » nouvellement créé en 2011, l’article s’intéresse aux parents ainsi indirectement sélectionnés. Il questionne d’abord leur particularité. Ont-ils été choisis parce qu’ils seraient exceptionnels de même que leurs enfants ? Ce n’est pas le cas semble-t-il. Leurs enfants ne sont pas exceptionnels au plan scolaire, pas plus qu’eux-mêmes ne le sont au plan socio-économique ou par leurs origines. On peut les considérer comme ressemblant à la masse des parents de milieu populaire de ces quartiers qui se soucient de la scolarité de leurs enfants et aspirent pour eux à de meilleures conditions. L’enquête de type ethnographique permet de connaître l’impact des clivages ethniques sur les configurations familiales, et permet de situer à grands traits le style éducatif qui prévaut dans ces familles.
