Abstract

Molecular phylogenetics have proven useful in elucidating forces driving speciation and uncovering hidden diversity within species complexes. Indochina, a major evolutionary hotspot within mainland Southeast Asia, provides a remarkable natural system for studies of biogeography (de Bruyn et al, 2014). The currently recognized spotted flying lizard Draco maculatus (Gray, 1845) potentially encompasses multiple species due to its widespread geographic distribution throughout Indochina and dewlap color pattern variation among subspecies. Using molecular sequence data, we examine phylogeographic architecture within this hypothesized species complex using maximum likelihood and Bayes factor delimitation (BFD) approaches.
