Abstract

Age-related changes of the sinonasal region can have a significant impact on the quality of life. Knowing the effect of aging on sinonasal physiology and understanding the impact of sinonasal disorders on this specific group of patients can help in providing them with better care. Significant research in approaching rhinosinusitis, smell disorders, and functional nasal surgery has appeared in the literature in recent years. Medical and surgical treatment options for common sinonasal disorders should be tailored in the geriatric population to take into consideration the presence of comorbidities and safety of the given treatment in this age group. With aging, sinonasal physiological and pathological changes can have a significant impact on the quality of life and worsen respiratory diseases. There are a variety of non-surgical and surgical treatment options available, allowing management to be tailored to each individual patient. Thus, a thorough evaluation is crucial before deciding the treatment plan of an elderly patient.
