HLA-B27 status and gender associating with sacroiliitis on computed tomography in ankylosing spondylitis

Abstract
- Objective: ToobservetheinfluenceofhumanleucocyteantigenB27�(HLA-B27)�statusandgenderon� sacroiliitisoncomputedtomography�(CT)�inankylosingspondylitis�(AS). Methods: WereviewedthearchivedmedicalrecordsoftheASinpatientsadmittedintheRheumatology� DepartmentoftheFirstAffiliatedHospitalofWenzhouMedicalUniversityduringtheperiodfromJanuary� 2007�throughJanuary�2013�andfinally� 386�patientswereincludedinthestudy.�Theseverityofsacroiliitis� onCTwasevaluatedaccordingtothegradingusedinthemodifiedNewYorkcriteriaforAS.�Two-way� classificationanalysisofvariance�(ANOVA)�wasemployedtoexaminetheeffectofHLA-B27�statusand� genderonageatdiseaseonset.�TheimpactofHLA-B27�andgenderonsacroiliitisonCTwastestedby� univariateandmultivariatelogisticregressionanalyses. Results: Therewere�350�HLA-B27�positivepatients�(90.7%)�and�36�HLA-B27�negativepatients�(9.3%).�The� ANOVAtestindicatedthatHLA-B27�positivepatientsandmalepatientsrespectivelyhadanearlierage� atdiseaseonsetthanHLA-B27�negativepatientsandfemalepatients.�Thelogisticregressionanalysis� indicatedthatpositiveHLA-B27�status�(OR�2.601,�p=0.004)�andmalegender�(OR�1.923,�p=0.004)�were� significantpredictorsofworsesacroiliitis.�Inaddition,�elevatedESR�(OR�2.181,�p=0.013)�andlongerdisease� duration�(OR�1.100,�p�
