Abstract

In the industrial world, the practical training like on-the-job training (OJT) is very important to make new employees skillful quickly in aging society like Japan. More effective education and training program requires to be expectedly developed in cooperation with actual workers. For this purpose, the author actually works as a checker, participant observation. Then the author using the result of this case study attempts to improve the existing education and training program. From this observation, off-the-job training (Off-JT) seems to be just acquiring the basic knowledge and practicing the consequent image training. Therefore in order to improve checkers’ likeability in their appearance and behaviors and to learn the skills step by step through trials and errors, the reconsideration of time distribution for practicing OJT is necessary. As future work, the author plans to apply the knowledges and experiences gained by this case study to the education and training in the industrial world.
