Abstract
- SUMMARY Search engines are defined” and recent developments described, exemplified, and evaluated, especially those concerned with traditional search and retrieval capabilities. Discussion concentrates on two broad issues: (1.) collection and indexing methods and (2) retrieval and ranking methods. It is concluded that a wider adoption of field searching, proximity searching, and relevance feedback would improve quality of search results.
