Abstract

Fixed and mobile Internet ecosystems have drifted away from classical monolithic content and service value chains into a pluralism of highly competitive non-linear business interactions. The analysis tooling, however, has only partially participated in this transition, as it mainly concentrates on qualitative measures for assessing so called “value networks”. Thus, the present article is dedicated to illustrating how quantitative value network assessment techniques can be designed that allow tailored responses to current trends in the fixed and mobile networking industry. This will be demonstrated in a case study on video on demand services where side payments are compared with classical payment regimes.
