Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to document the preformance characteristics and capabilities of the radar section of a, 5-4GHz Microwave Active Spectrometer system. The system will provide ground truth data for radar remote sensing (6° and its dependence on look angle and polarization) and should be able to test the propozition of Auer /1/ to utilize the microwave ellipsometry for radar remote sensing. It is especially designed to measure the electromagnetic properties of natural surfaces at relative low frequencies and with all possible polarizations. Data collected from various fields have been analysed for the dependence of the scattering ring coefficient on soil moisture, vegetation height and ground relief respectively frequency, polarization and look angle.
