Abstract
- This letter presents a wide-slot monopole antenna loaded with a dual-ring resonator for triple-band operation, which can be applied for wireless local area network (WLAN) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX). Multiband operation is realized by incorporating a fork-like monopole, a wide slot, as well as a dual-ring resonator. The desired lower bands of 2.4 GHz WLAN and 2.5 GHz WiMAX operations can be obtained by replacing the traditional ground with a wide-slot ground. Then, with the addition of the dual-ring resonator coupled fed by the fork-like monopole, the middle resonate mode covering 3.5 GHz WiMAX occurs. In addition, an upper operation band, which is generated by the fork-like monopole, can be further widened by the wide-slot ground to cover the 5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN and 5.5 GHz WiMAX. A prototype of the proposed antenna with a compact size of 32 × 28 mm2 has been designed, fabricated, and tested. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 58:1097–1101, 2016
