Abstract
- [1] Carbonyl sulfide (COS) was measured in surface seawater during two Atlantic cruises. The daily mean concentration of COS is correlated to the daily means of global radiation, CH3SH concentration, hydrolysis lifetime of COS in seawater, and the logarithm of chlorophyll a concentration. An empirical model for the COS concentration has been developed on the basis of correlations between the COS concentration and these parameters. The model appears to be a promising tool for estimating COS concentrations in surface seawater from satellite observations.
