A short history of the military survey of Australia, 1907–1936

While military personnel in Australia have been engaged from time to time in survey duties, of which the etlorts of Major Mitchell and Colonel Light are possibly the best known, no definite allocation of survey duties among the Defence Forces of the colonies, or later, of the Commonwealth, was made until the formation of the Australian Intelligence Corps.
