Abstract: The present paper discusses the influence of waste steel casting liquid-glass sand moulds on phase composition and structure in a ceramic material imitating a dinas refractory. Phase compositions and structure studies are presented; the presence of a fine alkali constituent is shown to provide an almost complete transformation of quartz to tridimite without conventional mineralizing agents.
