Abstract
- We have studied the hysteresis losses in YBCO tapes in magnetic fields oriented nearly parallel to their surface ( ab plane). The magnetic moment is considerably hysteretic when the applied field is oriented very close to the tape. Following an analysis published earlier [Phys. Rev. B 62 (2000) 14452], we show that the parallel-field moment is the dominant contributor to the hysteresis loss unless the c -axis component of applied field penetrates considerably. By measuring the transverse moment that is orthogonal to the applied field, we investigated the magnetic moment along the c -axis, which in other cases dominates the hysteresis loss due to the shape effect.
