Abstract: This chapter presents the basics of classical heat conduction in solids. A mathematical formulation of typical TNDT problems is given, and direct and inverse inspection problems are discussed. Tables of solutions of heat conduction equations for various types of heating and for both a semi-infinite body and a plate are provided. Both amplitude and time (frequency or phase) TNDT parameters are introduced.
