Abstract

A previously proposed slow extraction technique has been adapted for application to the Moscow Meson Facility. This technique is based on the excitation of radial betatron oscillations while the beam is being gradually shifted onto the thin target. This method has been used to extract protons from weak-focusing synchrotrons. Its possibilities are disclosed in present-day strong-focusing magnetic rings. The essence of this method is the reduction of particle momentum by some magnitude during single crossing of a thin condensed target. The main characteristics of the Moscow Meson Facility proton storage ring are given. >
