On the stabilization of polyvinylchloride by middle carboxylates of coordination-unsaturated metals

It was found that the stabilizing action of carboxylates of Cd and Pn influencing the thermal degradation of PVC is exhibited not only in HCl acceptance but also in inhibition of the reaction of polyene formation. This is due to replacement of Cl atoms in ∼ CO(CH = CH)nCHCl∼ groups by ester fragments of the stabilizer. A kinetic scheme of the reaction is discussed.
