Abstract

Thermography is a non-invasive and non-painful technique that allows the generation of high resolution images without any physical contact. This paper presents the main applications involving biomedical thermography nowadays. For this purpose, it was performed a literature review through the known electronic based search options, such as, Wiley Online Library, ScienceDirect, Scielo, Google Scholar, IEEE Xplorer, Elsevier, Medline, Pubmed. Preferentially, it was used English language with the following keywords: medical termography, medical infrared images, thermographic assessment, thermography assessment e medical infrared imaging. It was followed the retrospective method, searching for research papers involving a window time of the last five years, from 2007 to 2012. It is noticed at a certai n level of detail, that thermography is being applied mainly at the following areas: orthopedic, odontology, surgery procedures, sports, oncology, cardiology, angiology, endocrinology, Forensic Medicine, hemodynamics, obstetric, physiotherapy and ergonomic. Therefore, it is concluded that the use of thermography and other clinical observations and additional exams together, may assist to define medical diagnostics or to evaluate the efficacy of the therapeutic methods employed.
