Mobiluncus and Bacterial Vaginosis

Anaerobic, curved, motile, Gram-negative organism, belonging to a “new” genus have been isolated recently from up to 50% of women with bacterial vaginosis, suggesting that they might play an important role in the pathogenesis of the syndrome. The organisms have been given the genus name Mobiluncus and two species are recognised at present: Mobiluncus curtisii and M.mulieris.
