Abstract

30. * Eugenia harkerae E. Sánchez-Chávez & Zamudio, Brittonia 71(4): 394 (2019) EOO: 4 km ². AOO: 4 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Critically Endangered. Eugenia harkerae is considered endemic to Mexico and restricted to the state of Jalisco, in the “Sierra Occidental” region, municipality of San Sebastian del Oeste. The species occurs in the Humid Montane Forest, between 1,400 to 1,850 m elev. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) fall within the thresholds of Critically Endangered category under the criterion B. There is only one location for this species, as it is known only from the type collection. A continuing decline of habitat quality is inferred as its habitat is slowly deteriorating due to the impact of new roads, growing urban settlements and extensive tourism (Reynoso Dueñas et al. 2007), besides being in the polygon of the Protection Area “CADNR 043”, in Jalisco (DOF 1949). For this reason, Eugenia harkerae is classified as Critically Endangered (CR) criterion. Specimen examined:— MEXICO.
