Abstract
- Computer assisted movement tracking was used to investigate the toxicity effect of commonly used aquiculture disinfectants (potassium permanganate and bleaching powder) on the motility of two marine microalgae Isochrysis galbana and Tetraselmis chui. Both disinfectants tested showed significant effect (p 50 of potassium permanganate on motility of I. galbana and T. chui was 0.85 and 5.00mg/L, respectively. For bleaching powder, it was 4.98 and 5.09mg/L for I. galbana and T. chui, respectively. Compared to T. chui, I. galbana was more sensitive to Potassium permanganate. Our results reveal a dose-response relationship between tested disinfectants and motility characters and indicate that the motility of I. galbana and T. chui is sensitive to disinfectants tested and can be used as an indicator for toxicology bioassays.
