Abstract

From industrial viewpoint, the international conference has a significant economic impact for the region where the conference takes place. Participants at international conferences will spend more days than tourists or visitors for other purposes. Many different stakeholders are involved in the convention industry as it is an basic factor in promoting inbound tourism in Japan. Japanese governmental agency JNTO takes an important role of promoting to attract international conference. In this paper, 2427 samples are collected for evaluation effective elements to number of participants, which is include the name of the conference, venue, prefecture / city, the number of participants, etc., then, the chi-square test was adopted to clarify the relationship with participants. From the perspective of attracting international conferences, we analyzed the cities and venues where many foreign participants are coming. As a result, it become clear that there was an association among the participants, the venue and the host city. For international conference organizers, the choice of a venue and a host city is one of the most important factors for the success of the conference. Furthermore, it was found that the other factors considered were hardly related. On the other hand, it has also become clear that certain venues may exhibit outstanding performance.
