Signal averaging in the undergraduate laboratory

A comprehensive resonance-like experiment for an undergraduate electronics workshop is described. The main purpose is to demonstrate how a microprocessor can be used in experiments and the power this can have as a noise-reduction technique. The experiment demonstrates that, when using signal averaging, the increase of the signal-noise ratio is proportional to the square root of the number of repetitions.
