Abstract

We have measured the specific heat of a series of polycrystalline CePt 3 Si and Ce 1 + x Pt 3 + y Si 1 + z samples whose compositions vary slightly from the stoichiometric composition. We observed two peaks derived from magnetic anomalies on the specific heat measurements of the Ce 1 + x Pt 3 + y Si 1 + z samples. One of the peaks relates to the antiferromagnetic phase transition at T N = 2.2 K . The other is a large peak at 2.7 K observed for the sample that showed a ferromagnetic anomaly at 3.0 K on the temperature dependence of the magnetization. Heat treatment had different effects between these anomalies.
