Abstract

Historically, women have used creative expression and art activities to express the unspeakable, to soothe the self and to connect to other women. This connection to self and community through creative activities is the basis for a group model that the authors have developed for women who are dealing with the effects of childhood sexual abuse. This model draws on women's historic use of the creative arts for healing, on current feminist practice in the area of violence, and on the existential art therapy movement.
