Abstract
- The paper considers the reconstruction of ocean currents from the asynchronously-compiled temperature and salinity data using three different techniques: the diagnostic method, the sequential objective analysis and the four-dimensional (4D) analysis based on dynamico-stochastic modelling. Intercomparison of the techniques is implemented on the basis of numerical model experiments carried out for the Newfoundland energetically-active area. Assessed is the accuracy of reconstruction of various hydrophysical fields using the techniques suggested. The advantage of applying 4D analysis is shown.
