The article contains an extensive description and analysis of ways and techniques of word play creation in film discourse, namely in the British-American TV series ���Good Omens���, based on the book of the same name by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The present article gives a brief overview of published linguistic works on the nature of word play. The abundant toolkit of means of wordplay used in cinematographic discourse as well as the increasing significance of motion picture industry in modern world make it necessary to conduct a more thorough research on the phenomenon of word play in this sphere. The articles touches upon various types of word play, such as contextual antonymy, literalization of the meaning of the utterance, double actualization of meaning, as well as word play with the use of stylistic devices of extended metaphor, periphrasis, and allusion. It is noteworthy that context plays an important, or rather, a key role in the understanding of word play in film discourse, as, in the majority of cases, it includes extra-linguistic factors and basic background cultural knowledge in word play creation. Furthermore, in most cases two and more phenomena are used in the creation of word play, which proves that film discourse usually relies on more complicated cases of the word play.
