Abstract

The radioisotope F18 has a particular affinity for bone tissue and a rapid soft tissue clearance, 1 h after i.v. injection of F18 the radiopharmacon is located almost exclusively in the bone. Osseous regions with increased metabolism show an elevated uptake of the diagnostic agent. This bone seeker was used along with the standard diagnostic procedures in the otitis media chronica epitympanalis. In p.a. directed skull scintigram areas showing “active bone alteration” were able to be differentiated from less active forms of this ear affection F18-scintigraphy therefore offers an additional diagnostic possibility in the evaluation of otitis media chronica epitympanalis.
