Abstract

The combination of one-sided corrosion pits and cross-bedding of siltstone slabs at 75°00′N 37°20′E, in the Barents Sea, is taken to indicate that the sea bottom at this locality was covered by a pavement of slabs from the local bedrock. The age of the rock is judged to be Mesozoic, possibly Triassic, and the possible widespread existence of similar exposures, hitherto unnoticed because of the sampling techniques used, is discussed.
