Abstract

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: This study aims to investigate the predictor of target resistance in metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with sunitinib. METHODS: This retrospective study included metastatic renal cell carcinoma patients treated with sunitinib. Glasgow prognostic score (GPS) and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) score of all the patients were collected. The disease progress rate and progress free survival (PFS) time were also analyzed. Log-rank test as well as Cox regression was used to analyze survival data. RESULTS: Fifty-three cases completed the measurement of C-reactive protein, albumin, neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, platelet count hemoglobin, LDH, KPS and serum corrected calcium before target therapy. GPS rank from 0 to 3 with 17 (32.1%) cases, 18 (34%) cases, 11 (20.8%) cases and 7 (13.2%) cases, respectively. GPS was divided into two groups: low GPS group (score 0 and 1) and high GPS group (score 2 and 3). Median PFS of low GPS group was significantly longer than GPS group (16.77 months and 11.50 months, p1⁄4 0.020). Multivariable analysis showed that both GPS and MSKCC scores were independent prognostic factors to predict target resistance (p1⁄40.048 and 0.029, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: High GPS score may be a potential marker to predict target resistance in mRCC patients treated with sunitinib, which may be more feasible than MSKCC score in China.
