Abstract

Qualitative data were gathered in a study of how midwives facilitate and women make informed choices in pregnancy. Issues of power permeated the data. This series of three articles will interpret and discuss these issues in relation to Lukes' (1974) conceptualization of power, and theories regarding empowerment. This final article discusses Lukes' third dimension of power, and relates data from the study to more recent ideas about empowerment.
