Abstract

The horizontal structure of the horizontal wind velocity is derived by the meteor echo observation with the MU radar. By dividing the meteor echoes into four azimuth sectors, horizontal wind velocities at four locations with about 100 km horizontal separation are determined with a time and height resolutions of 1 h and 2 km . The typical wind difference was about 20 m / s for 100 km separation with a significant temporal variation. Examples of the discrimination of tides and gravity waves with a same wave period was demonstrated using horizontal wind structure analysis. A simultaneous observation with the OH airglow imaging showed that the uniformity/non-uniformity of the wind field well corresponds to the uniformity/non-uniformity in the gravity wave in the airglow layer.
