Abstract
- A C-SiC(20 vol.-%)-ZrC(30 vol.-%) composite was fabricated through hot-pressed sintering using ball-milling dispersion. The static oxidation behaviour of C-SiC(20 vol.-%)-ZrC(30 vol.-%) composite in air from 1000 to 1200°C was analysed through differential thermal analysis. The formed surface oxide was characterised through scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The oxidation law for the C-SiC(20 vol.-%)-ZrC(30 vol.-%) composite from 1000 to 1200°C was found based on the mass-loss rate. A general model and the mechanism of oxidation for C-SiC(20 vol.-%)-ZrC(30 vol.-%) composite were proposed.
