Rives-Stoppa Ventral Hernia Repair

Ventral hernia repairs are typically repaired with the use of mesh and subsequently restoration of the anatomical midline. While the mesh can be placed in any layer of the abdominal wall, a retrorectus position offers the advantages of being isolated from the rest of the abdominal wall and the peritoneal cavity. The posterior rectus sheath and the rectus abdominis muscle border the retrorectus space. This chapter discusses a retrorectus mesh ventral hernia repair, also known as the Rives-Stoppa repair.
