Abstract

Encapsulated cholesteric liquid crystal(CLC) film is prepared by means of polymerization induced phase separation(PIPS) method. The electro-optical properties of encapsulated CLC on glass and plastic substrates have been studied in detail, mainly focusing on the driving voltage, reflection and contrast ratio. It shows that no matter on glass or plastic substrate, the encapsulation contributes to improving the display contrast, though the driving voltage accordingly increases. In comparison with the glass substrate, the driving voltage of the encapsulated CLC on the plastic substrate increases from 70 V to 200 V,while the contrast ratio arrives to 6.2∶1.In conclusion, our present goal has been achieved on flexible display based on CLC.
