Abstract

Experiments on heat transfer in cylindrical monoliths are presented. The monoliths were heated at the wall, thus warming up cold air passing through their channels. Measurements of the solid-phase temperatures of different monoliths in the radial and axial directions show how heat transfer in such bodies is influenced by the void fraction. Two models describing the heat transfer are developed and a comparison of the calculated and measured temperatures is given.
