Abstract

One new triterpene saponin, named ilexgenin A2 (1), and a known triterpene saponin, 3β,19α-dihydroxyurs-12-en-24,28-dioic acid 24,28-di-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), were isolated from the leaves of Ilex pubescens. Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of UV, IR, MS, and NMR spectroscopic analyses coupled with chemical degradation. The results of preliminary pharmacological research show that 1 presents definite XOD inhibitory activity.
